Collection: Te Rautini Sheridan
Te Rautini’s art reflects his approach in life - explore the unknown, experiment with the media, see what happens and hopefully the result is something worthy of what he expects. If the unexpected occurs then so be it.
He has been a self employed artist for 20 years. The examples traditional masters of carving left is an outstanding example of their take on life, pre-colonial and the impacts of this disruption to their everyday life, with art being no exception. The introduction of steel increased the speed with which carvers produced their forms. The introduction of paint reduced the use of natural dyes, speeding up the timeframe to produce these stunning examples. All of these introduced media had both positive and negative impacts that he believes we continue to deal with today particularly 3D sculpting machines and AI. He is all for the new, but not at the expense of the old.
