Collection: Simon Lewis Wards

Simon, based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, is known for his cast-glass and ceramic sculptures that explore nostalgia through everyday objects. After leaving school at 15 and working in trade jobs for over a decade, Wards began experimenting with glass at age 30, discovering a deep creative fulfillment. His early work reimagined power poles and lolly wrappers in crystal and porcelain, sparking a practice that continues to play with scale, memory, and material.

Self-taught and hands-on, Simon pushes traditional glass casting techniques to new limits - melting, stretching, and shaping glass into unexpected forms. His work elicits a childlike sense of wonder, often prompting viewers to share their own stories and memories.

He also works with young creatives, installing public sculptures and hosting workshops in schools and parks to encourage curiosity and expression. His practice reminds us that art is not only technical - it’s emotional, playful and deeply human.
