Collection: Saskia Baetens

Saskia is a Belgian-born sculptor whose work explores the hybridisation of human and animal forms through a mythology of transformation, memory, and scale. Her recurring use of rabbit-human hybrids evokes archetypes ranging from ancient deities to contemporary icons - figures both playful and provocative. These forms interrogate anthropocentrism and question inherited hierarchies, blending absurdity with critical reflection.

Rooted in early experiences of rural life and a fascination with imagined subterranean worlds, Saskia draws on literary influences such as Watership Down and De Bonten Beestjes to construct sculptural narratives of imaginary worlds and instinctual knowledge. With a background in film prop-making, she merges technical precision with a deeply personal iconography, balancing physical and structural clarity with psychological depth.
