Rod Cunliffe

Rod has always had an interest in art with its ability to uplift the spirit, inspire and connect. He studied Art and Architecture in the UK and came to NZ in 2007. Specialising as a ceramicist, his larger projects often include wood and metal, combining the inherent strength and beauty of each material.  

Over the last six years, Rod has found working with copper to be exceptionally rewarding because of its adaptability and the exotic range of colours which develop over time. Having worked with Creative Northland and CollaboratioNZ, he now moves freely between mediums, focusing upon stylised proportions and more challenging concepts. The peacock is a wonderful example of nature’s exotic beauty (they can defy gravity as well). This piece is of enduring quality and pays homage to nature at its best. His other creations can be found in New Zealand, America, Germany and England.
