Collection: Murray Swan
Murray has been creating indoor and outdoor sculptures for over 40 years. He calls upon the fairly unique skills he gained from over 40 years as an aircraft engineer to transform ideas and concepts that he hopes will fall softly on the eye but also raise some questions for the viewer.
Other skills were developed to deal with chemical treatments, anodising, metal polishing and surface protection. Metals used are electropolished mirror stainless steel, thermally and electro-anodised titanium, copper and brass. He uses recycled materials where practicable.
His work has developed from using just metals, to sometimes including sculptured forms from recycled New Zealand timber and carbon fibre. Now including ceramic, this creates an additional dimension to his work. The frequent references to the sea and the creatures within, perhaps stem from his upbringing so close to two beautiful harbours.
Murray is now living in Wattle Downs, south of Auckland.
