Collection: John Ferguson

John's practice offers a meditation on the human form that can be found in everyday objects and nature. His recent body of work utilises found or pre-made objects and repurposing them to create natural elements like flowers and nests.

Notable works are ‘Blooming Buckets, a 5m tall dandelion made from yellow buckets, NZ Sculpture OnShore 2014, now on permanent display at Sculptureum, Matakana. Another large-scale botanical work is Khulu, a 5m tall sculpture resembling a foxglove (Sculpture in the Gardens People’s Choice Award.) Breathe a 5m Corten steel sculpture from Sculpture in the Gardens 2019 - this piece resembles both a canopy of branches and the anatomy of our lungs, the way our world breathes, and how we breathe. Belonging NZ Sculpture Onshore 2023 takes on the form of a curtain or a dress elegantly moving in the breeze.
