Jamie Pickernell

Jamie works from a studio in Rotorua. He is one of the few artist blacksmiths working in New Zealand today. He is also fluent in stone and wood and has a passion for furniture and architectural hardware, as well as sculpture. This wide skill base and his healthy can-do attitude has seen Jamie make a full-time career from his passion as a maker for the last 27 years.  

Jamie remembers fondly the second ever NZ Sculpture OnShore exhibition in Genevieve Becroft's garden in the early 2000's which really launched his sculpture career. Also exhibiting in the Auckland Botanic Sculpture in the Gardens show has been a career highlight with two people's choice awards, a supreme award and two sculptures in their permanent collection.
