Collection: Iona Matheson
Iona has been creating sculptures for many years using recycled media, ceramics, composite stone, natural fibres and, more recently, bronze. Combinations of materials come together to create beautiful textural forms inspired by the natural world. Each sculpture is a unique creation, reflecting the interwoven relationships between flora and fauna and geological formations. Living in Coromandel provides so much inspiration with alluring landscape and beautiful birds and forests.
Iona has exhibited extensively throughout NZ - highlight exhibitions include Waiheke Gallery, From the Foreshore to the Forest Floor. NorthArt Gallery Visions in Fibre winning popular choice award. Most recently as guest artist at Summerstone Ceramics in Kapiti. Iona has created and designed three large public sculptures for Waitakere city and was lead artist for the New Lynn Library.
She has an extensive background teaching art at Corban Estate Art centre, Te Uru Gallery and currently teaches sculpture workshops at Driving Creek Pottery in Coromandel.
