Collection: Gerard McCabe
Gerard McCabe is a self-taught artist, working in the sculptural medium, predominantly bronze cast by the 'lost wax' (core perdue) method. This is a multi-stage process, beginning with modelling from sketches, to moulds, to casting, to finishing and fettling work on the cast bronze. Culminating in the 'patination' (colouration) of the finished work.
He has exhibited widely at dealer galleries in New Zealand, Australia and the USA. His work has been included in Sculpture Group Shows of leading artists.
His most recent large commission was a life-size bronze for the New Zealand Country Women's Institute's 100th anniversary. The work, a life-size portrait of its founder, Anne Spencer, has been installed on the corner of Browning Street and Shakespeare Road, Napier.
