Collection: Chris Ogilvie

Since finishing paid work, Chris has been finding a creative outlet designing and making joinery and furniture for his new house, that is both practical and beautiful.

Recently he has been felling some of the Tasmanian Blackwood trees that he planted some 40 years prior, and putting them through his own portable mill. These are yielding the most beautiful, hard, stable and moderately durable timbers; which he finds are a joy to work with. Because he is doing the actual milling, he is able to select much more interesting parts of the tree to cut, to see what it yields. Thus the results are unpredictable and can be quite stunning; this gives him great pleasure. He has a well equipped workshop in the basement of his house.
