Sofia Athineou

What inspires your art practice?
My inspiration comes from nature, my life, my relationships with others and my surroundings. We are all connected. I live in the bush, a magical place full of life. Full of amazing color combinations and shapes.

What materials do you work in?
I am a mixed media artist. I practice glass casting, painting, harakeke, wood carving, photography, sculpting and collage.

Describe your artwork for NZ Sculpture OnShore 2021
Who we are as humans determines our life path. Our words and actions create equal and opposite reactions. Anything we give, we get back. If we give kindness, we also receive it. If we are happy and positive we end up being surrounded by happy and positive people. Our lives are in constant motion. We evolve all the time. We affect each other. The shapes in my sculpture are repeated and flipped to show how
we affect our own future.

Where are the public most likely to see your artworks outside of NZSOS?
